| It became painfully clear to me the other night that my disdain for the AL is finally taking it's toll. I have ignored that other league for 30 years now, ever since they started the silliest rule ever invented - the DH. Because of that rule, I boycotted the AL. And now after 30 years, my brain is void of any information about all the great players that had to suffer through the generation since that fateful decision was made. I was talking to someone about the pitching woes of the Yankees, and I had no point of reference. He was mentioning guys I should have known, but my eyes just glossed over and I said "I know Goose Gossage, he pitches for the Yankees, doesn't he?" He mentioned a guy named Rivera and I thought he was talking about a car. I told him that I used to be a vendor at Yankee and Shea from 1980-84 so I knew about Oscar Gamble, Dave Winfield and Reggie Jackson. But that was about it. I have literally ignored the other league and know nothing about it's players because it's not baseball. Why do we have this silly thing? It gets me upset, so I'm just going away now... |

| Ace - nice post... We agree... In fact, we'd like to see the AL abolished, altogether. Just have the World Series between the Mets and whomever survives the other playoff rounds... |

| Look gentlemen, their are some AL fans that don't like the DH any more than you do, but in terms of root root rooting for the home team (The 26 Time World Champion New York Yankees) it's just not a deal breaker. The DH is something I resigned myself to a long time ago. There is nothing I or any fan can do to eliminate it. The MLBPA is never going to vote to abolish it, as it keeps the Ortiz's, Thomas's, and coming soon to a city near you, the Bonds's of the world employed. I like when the Bombers play away interleague games so I can catch a double switch or other NL tactics, I really do! Unfortunately the DH is , like $3.00+ gas, $10+ movies, and sex scandles in Politics, here to stay. Time to move on gents, time to move on... |

Well, well, well. I knew it would only be a matter of time before Rex O'Rourke revealed his true stripes. A YANKEES FAN??? As a Yankees fan who is venturing out and responding a writing on a site with quite a bit of Mets flavor to it, it seems Rexy would know a thing or two about bad ideas...I guess I kind of feel sorry for him, the way I feel sorry for all Yankee fans. Their loyalty is so misguided, there opinions so skewed. I guess some of your earlier post kind of make sense now. And now that I know, I can't pretend that I don't...I like the Matts idea. Let's just get rid of the AL completely. Who need them? Certainly not me... ACE |
