BUFFALO, NY - We are still frozen to the bone up here in this Winter Wonderland and apologize for being tardy today; our keyboards took some time to thaw. Yet, our hearts are still warmed over after Tuesday's Ice Bowl between the Sabres and Pens and bewildered that more media - including ESPN - didn't make a bigger deal about it. We mentioned it before and we'll say it again - this was arguably the BEST sporting event we ever attended -EVER! 73,000+ rabid fans ignored the cold and constant snowfall to watch hockey players play their game as it was played by their ancestors - outside, in the frigid air with snow and imperfect ice. Ironically, those imperfect conditions made for a perfect day for every fan there – even the ones with frostbite and alcohol poisoning. Get this, the teams had to switch sides in OT so that neither would fully benefit from the wind – THE WIND!?! How cool is that?! Suffice to say, hockey will never be the same for us and we will be lobbying hard for this happening to become more frequent - say twice a year. Give us a home and home with a team from the U.S. and one from Canada - Sabres/Leafs? Black Hawks/Canadians? Moreover, let’s make the Olympic Games outdoor-only. The NHL wants to generate interest – that will generate interest. On a local level, just imagine if the Rangers, Islanders and Devils played a round robin at Shea, Yankee Stadium and Giants Stadium. If would be madness. Now multiply that madness by 10 and you have what we experienced in Orchard Park, NY - the home of the Buffalo Bills and [for a day] the Buffalo Sabres. (Our blue suits go with both, by the way). And we can't say enough about the people in this town - everybody was nice - and they deserve to host this game on a regular basis because they earned it. But let’s get back to the media. They dropped the ball when they should have been peppering us with pucks for two weeks prior. Instead, they overwhelmed us with coverage of obscure college football games played in sissy climates or domes (most of which were blowouts) and named for one unhealthy snack food after the next. If that wasn’t bad enough, we were (and continue to be) inundated with things called Caucuses in foreign countries like Iowa, as if we knew what they were or even cared to know! Great googly moogly! Give us outdoor hockey any day of the week! We want more of what transpired on the makeshift rink on the Canadian border - bottom line. Do you hear us Gary Bettman??? We hope so. Anyway, that’s all for today, we’re having our hypothermia treated at Tim Horton's and have to get the puck out of here… We love you, Buffalo! Chime in below and we’ll see you tomorrow. P.s... Footage from our visit should be ready next week... |

Caucuses may be weird Matts, but after today's we won't be seeing Mrs. Dennis Kucinich for another four years and that is a darn shame.

Geez, you guys sound like spokesmen for the NHL... I would definitely get into the games at the stadiums - that is a great idea. But what happens if it rains? And Sams-A-Fan, you are dead right about Kucinich. Maybe we can get his wife on a reality show - Wife Swap. She lives with Mitt.

The Black Hawks could play the Wild at Lambeau Field and then Soldier Field... That would be incredible.

Matts - you didn't have to get new suits - the Sabres were in their Met blue. Gotta love that. They don't have a MLB team so we should adopt them. But why were the Penguins wearing powder blue? That was ridiculous. Crosby is some player though - biggest goal in front of the NHL's biggest all-time crowd.

To be honest, I'm not big on hockey but if the Rangers played at Yankee Stadium or Shea, that woud be awesome.
