UNIONDALE, NY - We delayed this post for two reasons: A) We wanted the debut of Angry Ward Wednesdays (AWW - thanks, Grote2DMax) to go smoothly and without distraction, and B) the @#$*! Islanders beat the Rangers the other night, which was bad for us but good for the NHL and NY hockey fans. Anywho, we're sticking to our guns, despite the Uniondalers' thrilling win in a throwback game that elicited memories of Smith, Potvin, Bossy, Maloney, J.D., Espo, The Matts and Greschner. That said, here's why the Rangers can win Lord Stanley's Cup and, more importantly, get us all beyond the pain of the 2007 baseball campaign (not to mention a disturbing Jet season): 1) Henrik Lundquist 2) Henrik Lunquist 3) Henrik Lundquist… Did we mention Henrik Lundquist? They don’t call him ‘King Henry’ for no good reason, Gang. The guy is a machine borne from the Roy/Brodeur factory. He is that good. He has started all 15 of his team’s games and only has a 7-7 record despite an ERA under 2.00. More over, he’s driven in nearly half of the club’s 20 runs. You’re not going to win many games, let alone half, by scoring 20 runs in 15 games!!! Hammerin’ Hank Lunquist has done just that. Steve Carlton (Google his 1972 season) is one of the few that can empathize. Here in NYC we haven’t seen this disgraceful a lack of support since Craig Swan’s ‘78 and ’79 trials and tribulations. But Hank won’t have to endure this dearth of offense over the long haul. Eventually, Chris Drury, Scott Gomez (stinking up the ice) and Sean Avery will start to produce. This in turn will take some pressure off of Jagr and Shanahan while freeing up Callahan, Prucha and Dawes to make names for themselves. The point is, the Blue Shirts have depth. That’s what gives them a better chance than the Islanders or Devils – both good teams – to hoist the Cup. All in all, we’ve got an excellent triumvirate sample of the NHL here – hopefully, somebody will start watching. That’s all for today, we have to get the puck out of here. Please chime in below, tell your peeps about us and come on back tomorrow.

You are getting me pumped. I am such a sucker for you guys. But you're right - Lundquist gives any team a chance and this team has some weapons.

I admit the Rangers look solid on paper with a good mix of vets and young guys. But they still lost to my guys on the Island, who are good and have another great goalie. It's just that nobody reads Newsday so you don't know about our guys. Three great goalies in NY area, though.

This Rangers stuff is all well and good but I'm still waiting to see if Sam's-a-Fan replies to Leah's last question yesterday. In the meantime, can someone explain to me how David Wright won a gold glove this year? Don't get me wrong, I like the guy, but I didn't think his hot corner play warranted an award.
