ISLAND STUDIOS, LONDON, ENGLAND – Having heard the challenges and the potential wagers from Angry Ward, Yankee Joe, and The Philly Phanatic, I felt compelled to get to the studio and sum up my feelings on the subject by re-writing a certain rock anthem. With the help of Robert Plant (squeezing me in between an Alison Krauss gig and a hair appointment) I’ve summed up my feelings on the Mets, Yanks, and Phils. Although I think all three will win more than they lose, I don’t think any will reach the Promised Land in 2008. I hope I’m wrong about my Yanks just as I was about my New York Football Giants. In addition, I’d like to reaffirm my support for an “on the air” testimonial by the losers of the “Triangle of Death” wager, as it surely will be both painful and hilarious. There’s a man that I know and his name is Yankee Joe. And he thinks it’s the Bombers by seven. Ward, a gauntlet he’s thrown, Phanatic also wants it known. With a bet they can exercise demons. There are flaws in their teams. But they want to be seen. As the kings of the ongoing season. Tempers flare, posted hate. Often clever, curt debate. Sometimes all of their thoughts are misgiven. There’s a feeling I get. When I look to the Mets. Omar, Willie’s not crying, believe me. In my thoughts I have seen. Phillies choke, Marlins dream. And the Yankees still trail the bean eaters. And it’s whispered that soon. If we all post by noon. Then the Matts will soon sanction a wager. And a new day will dawn. Scoreboard watching all night long. And the ulcers will echo with Maalox. And the Phillies blunder… If there’s some hustle in your infield. Don’t be alarmed now. It’s just a pennant race, baby. Yes there are two paths they can go by. But in the long run. There’s still time for Cash to sell the farm. Your fans be bummin’ and they won’t go. Even though I know. The reaper’s calling you to join him. Dear Matties can you hear your team blows. You too, Yankee Joe. And Philly lies on that “Wild Thing” wind. Now that the season’s down the road. Sox will rise and Bombers fall. But there’s a team that we all know. One hundred years they want to show. Black cats be cursed, nor Billy goats. The sweat will glisten on their arms. The time will come for them at last. When we are one and one is all. To be a Cub and win it all! And he thinks it’s the Bombers by seven… Till next week Rex |

| Another Rexcellent post! I seriously don't think I can submit a column this week after this. Rex, you have definitely outdone yourself. "There's a feeling I get when I look to the Mets?" "And the Phillies blunder?" pure genius. Weird Al couldn't carry your jock. I can only hope that on Monday West Coast Craig will cover "Going to California." |
