Back to announcers, it's been said here many times but, there will never be another like Bob Murphy. He was the absolute best. So many great moments. I can even remember him doing a spring training game a few years back and Sidney Ponson was on the mound for the Orioles (if memory serves) Murphy spoke: "Sidney Ponson, from the tiny Island nation of Aruba. My wife and I had the chance to visit that country several years ago and we found it quite, quite enjoyable. Ball one."

AW - We couldn't agree more on the immortal Bob Murphy. He was the creme de la creme of radio broadcasters. While Scully may have the more famous TV call at the end of Game 6, equally memorable to Mets fans was Murphy's radio call. In honor of him, we quote it here:

"Mookie Wilson still hopes to win it for New York...3-2 the count...And the pitch by Stanley...And a ground ball trickling...It's a fair ball. It gets by Buckner! Rounding third is Knight...The Mets will win the ballgame...They win! They win!"

Sammy,
I was in the Bronx on Sunday night for the Yankee / Red Sox game and met Jon Miller in the (large) flesh on my way out. He sucks as an announcer, but he was (sort of) friendly, though he wouldn't high five me . . .
