Matts-One other thing. You are actually, wrong. The Mets are better than .500 over the past 162. They are 82-80 over that period. However, since they were 16 games over at 33-17 on May 29, 2007, they are 85-89 over the past 174 games. I think the Omar/Willie regime has had a large enough body of work at this point. Santana, Maine and Wright should be the only untouchables.

MATTS, it's been a tough couple of months, that's true, but it's way too early to go all Harry Truman on the Mets!
As powerfully stated on this site, the season is long, and the league is not that good. Okay, it's true they just did a team rendition of "We Left our Bats in San Francisco," but they won 7 of 9 before that. My suggestion is this:
Don't worry about Willie, Carlos (pick one), Moises, Pedro Johan, or Omar - if you want to revive, rejuvenate, and unite this team, someone, ANYONE, should simply jam a live field mouse in Billy Wagner's mouth, and then shove it down. The only thing you can count on with that guy is that when it counts most, someone will go deep - and that he'll say something annoying afterwards.

Angry Ward: We will not be at the the game tonight because we are clearly Band Wagon types. We just booked flights to Tampa... AZ Crazy: Our team is our team and you can bet we're still with 'em against your Vanishing Vipers! We bet you a hot dog that East bests West! PhillView: The buck stops here!!! It's amazing what you can accomplish when you don't care who gets the credit! |

| I'm all for the field mouse method, but someone better watch out for the PETA police. I didn't see them, but I'm told they were out in force at the Belmont on Saturday. |

Fair enough, Matts, fair enough. Point well taken, and impressive historically-based comeback.
While I still feel that it's too early to drop the bomb, this season's motoring along, and if the Mets continue to clunk along, and are, say, 44-50 at the All-Star break (July 13th), the buck WILL stop there, and you might as well cut and paste this post again, because the Mets will get pulled apart faster than the Backstreet Boys at a gay bar.
But they're not there just yet.

Sam, great point about PETA. I guess we should think of something else.
I feel sorry for his teammates, actually. Over the years, Wagner (and he did it in Philly as well) has gone from a supposed "honest, tell-it-like-it is athlete" to a guy who rips everything, most notably his teammates, and has never come through when the chip stacks were highest. |
