On the other topic, I do like how Rex qualified bravery with "sports bravery." I like the metaphors as much as anybody ("it's going to be a war"), but it goes a little overboard sometimes. A couple years back I remember a broadcaster saying "that was a brave choice of club for Tiger." Excuse me? I agree that it takes bravery to hobble into Madison Square Garden on one leg with everything on the line, or hobble to the plate against the game's best reliever, and come through at the highest level - but I'm sorry, using a sand wedge, unless you're using it to get up the beach at Normandy, doesn't take too much courage.
Boy, I sound like AngryWard today.
Okay, that rant aside - I do have an example of sports bravery, although the details escape me - from the Olympics, probably thirty years ago when I was a wee lad: there was a Japanese (I think) gymnast doing his routine on the rings with a broken bone in his leg. Anyway, he did his whole routine perfectly and then stuck the landing. Just amazing - how could you concentrate on an Olympic level routine knowing that you were heading for that kind of pain?
Happy Birthday, Rex. |

Getting back to the topic of today's post, and by the way, Happy Birthday to you man, I believe that Ronnie Lott had one or two knuckles worth of finger amputated rather than sit out the post-season and recuperate or have surgery. I don't necessarily agree with that decision because by gum it's only a game, but I'll bet none of his teammates ever questioned his desire!
Happy Mother's day to Rex's mom, all the moms out there in Matts land and beyond and to every one who has ever had a mom or known one! |

| Phillview, good one! I remember that guy. That landing must have hurt BIG TIME. SAF, Ronnie Lott also a good one. The Conrad Dobler's of the world can barely walk today because they played hurt so much. Was the sacrifice worth it? I don't know. |

| Yes Happy B-Day Rex and thanks Phillview. No slight to Jordan because he was the best - just a pet peeve rant of mine about the current state of media/athletes/marketing. Long live Jack Youngblood - to this old Ram fan he is and probably will be my favorite athlete of them all. |

| Rex, I've long felt that your own Alex Rodriguez doesn't get the credit he deserves for playing without a heart or spine. Happy birthday friendo. Happy Mother's Day to everyone and especially to Hank Steinbrenner, the biggest mother out there. |

| Not that I'm a Cowboy fan in any way, but how about Emmitt Smith having that huge game with broken ribs. And of course, nobody played hurt like Evel Knievel. |
