Cory Hart sounds like he should be a member of a 70s boy band.
Wright MUST go to the game to salvage some sense of Mets decency. Wagner is just on my last nerve after the past two days. He has no remorse, either. At least Benitez and Jessie Fiasco used to look exasperated or rattled when they gave up a crucial hit - Wagner can't even cop to it afterward. On Sunday, he was all "the team lifted us back up" - lucky for him! Last night, I couldn't even stand to watch the end on SNY, I was too busy trying to get my pulse and BP back to normal.
Howie Rose had it right, when he invoked the memory of Murphy, "And they WIN the damn game!"

So I just googled the lyrics to 'Sunglasses at Night' and was bummed to find out that the lyrics do not contain something about 'diet shakes-- oh no!' Those of you with good '80's recall will know the part of the song I'm talking about.
Yeah.. I am really not sure how Wagner got on the NL All Star Team. That's horrific. And.. there should be some rule about what is a 'save' and what isn't whereby Wagner's performance last night does not get him a save.. but it gets him twenty lashes.. or something similarly suitable. (OH.. trading him would be good. Forget him going to the AL... we don't need that junk.)
Hey... maybe Moises Alou's got some extra Advils for Church's migraine.
Oh.. and speaking of headache's-- anyone got a comment on Michael Vick filing for bankruptcy (due to his legal bills)? I think someone should send him some Advil too. .. and a brain transplant. |

Annie Savoy - Welcome to Meet the Matts! Murph's one of our all time heroes and having Howie invoke him last night was great. There seems to be a mold or pattern or whatever you would like to call it, when it comes to Mets closers. When the mold should have been broken after Skip Lockwood, the Mets continued to usher in highly touted but sketchy firemen, from Jesse Orosco and John Franco to Armando Benitiz and Braden Looper. Now we might have the most frustrating of all - Billy the Wags. Cookie - If Church takes any therapy, meds or advice from Moses Alou, we can get the embalming fluid ready. Oh and BTW - We're at 388 votes! |

I think a closer by definition is to be hated and will drive you crazy. I didn't love Johnny Franco until he stepped into the 8th inning role and all my hate and expletives were directed at Armando Benitez.
I will cast one vote for David Wright. My heart just won't let me do more for any Met performances the first half of the season. I do however think that I sense a turn around and I believe that the second half will be much more satisfying and much less frustrating. |

Sam, open your heart some more. Wright is at 70 RBI's already and you know he'll be batting over .300 by Friday. Who has more RBI's - Ryan Howard, who is batting .226 which is why he is not going to the All-Star Game. As penance, we hereby decree that until what time -- if any -- that the Philly Phanatic should return, SAM'S-A-FAN, by virtue of his highly superior brains, shall post in his stead, on alternate odd numbered Fridays (1st, 3rd and even 5th if one occurs) Furthermore, until said Phanatic return, we hereby decree that until what time -- if any -- that the Philly Phanatic should return, COOKIE, by virtue of her highly superior brains, shall post in his stead, on alternate odd numbered Fridays (2nd & 4th). Cookie - the torch is past and the pressure is on. This Friday is the 2nd of the month. Batter up! |
