SHEA STADIUM, NY -If you listened to Ramon Castro when he went out to chat with Oliver Perez in the fateful 6th yesterday, you may have heard this: "What a fine mess you've gotten us into now, Ollie!" After getting nickel & dimed by 3 balls that didn't leave the infield, Perez found himself facing Xavier Nady with two out and two runners in scoring position. The X-Man came through, drilling David Wright's knee and basically getting Joe Smith sent to Triple A. The former may prove to keep Wright out of the Beltran-less lineup while the latter is downright upsetting. We can't help but scratch our heads and wonder why the Samuel Hill Scott Shoeneweis didn't get the boot instead of Smith. Sure, Smith has struggled a tad recently but the Scottmeister has been awful 95% of the time. Furthermore, aren't pitchers allowed to struggle once and a while, especially a young gun that has been nothing short of a miracle find the majority of this campaign?! For crying out lemons, what message does this send out? Unless Smith is arm-weary and simply needs a break down in New Orleans, we are fully against his demotion. In fact, we may even write a good strong letter to George Mitchell, asking him to drop the Bonds stuff and work with us on Smith-Gate - that's how upset we are! Perhaps, though, some of you out there can help rationalize the move, sooth our anger and keep us from being disruptive forces in an otherwise fun-filled and exciting ride to the 2007 World Series. To that end, we'll not send our "Dear Mr. Mitchell" letter until tomorrow. We look forward to your thoughts on the matter. That's all for today, we'll see tomorrow.

That was one ugly inning that only a game like baseball can allow. Perez lowered his ERA and lost. Hope Wright is okay. We cant afford to miss a chance to pull away from Phils now that Utley is out. He's their heart and sole.

I think this move is made with the Smith's future and the Mets' present in mind. He's a young guy struggling right now. According to today's Times Smith has allowed 19 of 27 inherited runners to score since May 5th. That's "70.4 percent and the worst mark in the majors." He is probably both mentally and physically tired as the travel and everything about the majors is a brand new experience for a guy who's just out of college. Let him get his head straight in New Orleans rather than getting his stats and his psyche destroyed up here.

I'd like to see the Times break down Scotty ShowTheRuns. How many of those inherited runners were his. Smith is pitching in a jam all the time becasue of this guy. What are Smith's stats when coming in with the bases empty? Thats the real deal.
