PAMPLONA, SPAIN - After a stunning week in sports and politics and Mr. Met postings, we felt it was best to sit back and assess what went wrong and what went right. There was news aplenty and we will certainly miss some biggies but here's what retained our fleeting attention spans:
-"Gangsta" Jerry Manuel: We missed the Tony Robbins Seminar that urges one to find the ‘gangsta’ within and then outwardly proclaim such self-discovery while fighting to keep an extraordinarily high profile job in a family-friendly (except for prices) entertainment industry. Obviously, it works. We were under the impression one would get fired for referring to themselves in such a way, especially so publicly. Silly us.
-HR 3997: Emergency Economic Stabilization Act of 2008: Oh, boy. This is as complicated as gauging Oliver Perez’s actual worth vs Scott Boras’ perceived value. First off, DON’T call it a Bailout. No. It’s a RESCUE and here’s the skinny that our Matts-Matics staff compiled: Basically, we’re buying stuff that people can no longer afford or need at significantly reduced prices in the hopes of selling them for profit - eventually. Who will be assessing value, administering the actual sales, deciding where any profits go and determining who can purchase what, are MINOR details that haven’t been worked out yet but hey, Rome wasn’t torn down in a day. Hopefully, we’ll see a Running Of The Bulls and not a Run On The Banks (George Bailey mention goes here). We're hopeful for great things but would settle for a mere jogging of a bull calf or two. P.s… It’s likely that the same folks that got us into this mess will be overseeing the cleanup, which is tantamount to Darryl Strawberry babysitting Doc Gooden in the early 90s.
-OJ: Payback is a bitch! Exactly 13 years after being acquitted for having any role in the gruesome murders of Nicole Simpson and Ron Goldman, ‘The Juice” – who has been upstaged/confused in recent years by/with HGH – got nailed for Pop Warner-type infractions (Kidnapping, Armed Robbery, Assault With A Deadly Weapon) and is now behind bars until his hearing date of December 5th. Having done hard time for taking out insubordinate posters on our previous web show sites, we know first hand how long just a few days in the tank can be, let alone a couple of months. Fun? Not so much. Did OJ get squeezed by the all-white jury? Who cares? He had it comin’… (We hope Lawrence Phillips is watching somewhere and learning something).
-Justin Tuck: Not only has this guy stepped up on the field for the Super Bowl Champion NY Football Giants after they lost two star defensive ends, but now he’s emerged as a legitimate leader and voice of reason. Sir Tuck came out and said that Big Blue was right to suspend Plax “On The Teeth” Burress and that the star receiver basically needed to get his act together. We love that. Plaxico – you just got the big contract you were pining for (and deserved after last year), get your gear wired tight and LOCK IT UP!
-Mr. Met: Clearly misunderstood, this very visible/valuable addition to the MTM family is our Rick Ankiel; overflowing with talent and ability that needs to be utilized correctly. We are working feverishly with Dr. Alan Lans in an effort to harness this once-in-a-lifetime ‘find’ – so hold on to your hats, it will be a fun ride as we figure out what to do with this exciting star-in-the-making.

| I was a rookie officer in '93 when Gooden was in and out of trouble. Cops actually felt sorry for him. Damn shame about him and Straw. OJ will somehow get out of this one - watch. |

| Rick Ankiel reference makes me think you might be right about Mr Met. The 'rescue' is going to cost us all but probably not as much as a stock market crash. We will all end up paying either way. Houses got too expensive and too many people got mortgages they should not have gotten. It had to correct sooner or later. It is a bit like socialism, though, stepping in and helping companies by buying their crap. |
