AN UNDISCLOSED LOCATION, USA - Last night's win was fantastic! It moved us to within a game of the Phils and the division lead and kept us in a tie for the wild card lead. The wild card...I hate the wild card.

I believe it was the esteemed gentleman from MTM-land, Yankees Suck, who correctly stated that we are in it to win the division and anything less is trash (paraphrasing)! I agree. You play 162 games to win, not to back your way into a play-off spot.

The wild card was created for the networks and the greedy owners and its purpose is nothing less than communist world domination...I mean lining the fat cats' pockets with extra tv revenue and extra gate. It was made necessary by expansion run amok, another money grubbing ploy by Bud Selig and his cronies. But the clear mind, the pure mind can see right through this plot. Expansion, re-allignment and the wild card are designed to do nothing less than to sap and impurify all of our precious bodily fluids, and you can see it most clearly in the thinning of the pitching talent (see especially NYM's bull pen). Expansion is nothing more than fluoridation all over again! "Have you ever seen a commie drink a glass of water?"

Sure there have been exciting moments in wild card history and some great baseball played, but that doesn't change the fact that the beauty and the purity of the game have been poisoned by these changes. Sure the race for the wild card has added excitement down the stretch, but at the sole cost of that great American core value of playing to be the best, not the second best! The wild card therefore does nothing less than eat away at our core values like a cancer. "That's the way your hard-core commie works."

The Mets must not settle for the wild card! They must sweep the Marlins whether it be in three individual games, one game and a double-header or an unheard of triple-header. They must be pure in heart, mind and precious bodily fluids and pray that their purity before G-d is enough to bring the Phillies low.

You may wonder how it is I have such insight and clarity into this situation, well I first became aware of it on my wedding night during the physical act of love. I experienced a profound sense of fatigue, and a feeling of emptiness followed. Luckily I was able to interpret these feelings correctly. Loss of essence and the Mets losing two of three to Atlanta over the weekend making them think of the wild card and nothing else.

Root hard this weekend! Root for a sweep and first place in the East. Accept nothing less.

Now I'm going to make myself a drink of grain alcohol and rain water (there's plenty of both to go around this weekend) and pray that the lord sees fit to make us victorious. Remember, it's nuclear combat toe to toe with the Phillies and the world hangs in the balance.

Not to detract from any excitement (though I am not fully convinced everyone here will be jumping with glee), but keep it in check Mets fans. Please. I would hate to see the heartbreak.

The Cubbies rested some of their key players last night and it took a clutch hit for the Mets to win. The fact that there is such little difference (win wise) between winning the NL LEast or a Wild Card berth is just a testament to the poor play that is going on.

I hope the Mets can pick it up for the post.. and hope somehow the bullpen miraculously transforms themselves to the belles of the post season ball. (Though once we are in the post.. I'm putting full efforts behind the Cubbies... sorry Muttsies.)

Yeah! I'm with you, Sam's-A-Fan!!! I'm right there until they don't win the division! Then I'll take the Wild Card. I am weak.

Sam, anyway any how - this team will never recover with two consecutive collapses. About last nights game - what the hell was my boy Murphy doing bunting with 2 strikes??? Thats worse then Wright swinging 3-0!!!

Lets do some simple math here. 3 games left. Cubs will be benching their guys against hot Brewers - who are home. Phillies are home against the Nats. SWEEP. Mets have Pelfrey going against Marlins - who he has trouble with and who HATE the Mets. It doesnt add up.

Do not avoid the Wild Card, Sam. Simply deny it your essence!

I think what we need now is a wild card berth and some water on the back of the neck.
