Anaheim, CA – As I woke up this morning in the shadows of Hollywood, a place where fantasy becomes reality, it became apparent that it was time to put the finishing touches on this classic screenplay that has been developing for the past year. In the biggest sports story since Tiger Woods tearing his ACL, I am here to tell you that B Cox and yours truly are one in the same. That’s right; the Philly Phanatic is B Cox. I feel a little like Tiger right now. Like the surprise season ending surgery announcement, the legend of B Cox’s final day on Meet the Matts will now grow with this bombshell. I am sorry for the deception. BC was a character that I developed to obviously create some controversy. Mission accomplished. Frankly, I wasn’t sure where the Phil-in column was heading and how long I could continue with the subterfuge. But I did know that Yankees Suck would buy me another week to figure it out because he would not be able to come up with a competent column and he didn’t let me down two weeks ago. Thank You for that, YS. It wasn’t until late last Thursday when Ward predicted that BC’s Phil-in column would be a train wreck of epic proportions that I had the opening I needed to set the final scene in motion. With Ward’s comment it became evident to me that it was time to begin peeling the onion that is (was) B Cox. Thank You for that inspiration, AW. I wasn’t positive about B Cox’s next and final act but on Phriday afternoon, Sam’s post made me realize that the days of B Cox are over and it was only fair to share the ruse with the rest of you. His post nearly nailed the essence of the plot. That, coupled with the wide ranging uncerstainy of many others was exactly the response that we had hoped for and it was time to peel the final layer and let everyone else in on the story. With that being said, it is obvious that B Cox will never be able to appear again on MTM. For me, the diversion that he created was priceless. Finally, in Tigeresque fashion, I am also announcing that today will be the final day on Meet the Matts for the Philly Phanatic. I don’t feel that I can have the same impeccable credibility that I have had now that I have exposed this ongoing lie. I would like to thank all of you for your support and I am sorry but I must bid you adieu. |

Well...Phanatic... that B Cox column was your best piece of writing to date. What a great swan song.
But... as the 'B Cox Phil In Phriday' was unveiled last week, I didn't buy it because of the inconsistent tone compared to the previous B. Cox posts.
Hey..I am sure your baseball blogging days have not ended. There's definitely a Phillies site out there somewhere that will love you. Best of luck Phanatic.

| Since we're coming clean here, I am actually Yankee Joe. I kid. I kid. Phanatic, the Cox subterfuge aside, I see you are doing your annual: I'm leaving Meet the Matts announcement. I hope to see you back in September when the Mets are leading the NL East. |
